This is an interesting perspective you offer as an aid and development professional. Suggesting that Chinese government loans and investments in natural resources together with new PRC-Africa aid programs might succeed where Western aid and development programs have failed.

Could you expand on that more and explain why you believe that to be true? Can economic and social prosperity emerge within countries that are suffering from decades of political repression and devastating corruption in government and business simply by increasing trade and cooperation with Beijing? That IS what the PRC government in Beijing is trying to sell to Africans isn't it, that economic development the PR China way will help to lift millions of Africans out of their misery?

You are welcome to join our debates and dialogues on this important subject at Chippla's blog or over at my place. See my most recent post on the subject and follow the links.

I am pleased to have discovered Across the Divide today, really.BREhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09668844948345978806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20536729.post-1162776687174943092006-11-05T20:31:00.000-05:002006-11-05T20:31:00.000-05:00The poverty in Africa accrues from decades of iner...The poverty in Africa accrues from decades of inerpt, corrupt, and morally bankcrupt leadership. It is certain that several of the China-financed projects will have a trickle-down effect on the masses, economically. However, it remains to be seen how China's non-discriminatory, 'do-as-you-care' business arrangement and capital infusion will significantly reverse the rot in the system and improve the lot of the common man - if African governments "remain unaccountable, cronyistic and self-interested institutions [as] they are today."Imnakoyahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09110573313679680800noreply@blogger.com
